We arrived to the part of our city which called Tabán. The name probably comes from the tanning workshops which were existed in this area during the Turkish period.
If you turn to the left, you can see the statue of George Dózsa, who was the leader of a peasant revolution in Hungary, which was in 1514.
The first inhabitants who lived here were the Celts; they called this place AK INK, which means abundant water. Then the Romans came here and they built watch towers and contra Aquincum opposite the watch towers on the Pest side. Then the Hungarians came here, they called this area Little Pest. In the 13th century the Mongolians destroyed everything in the Tabán. The in the 16th century came the Turks and rebuilt this area. They built baths, for example the Rácz bath; you can see it on the right, and the Rudas bath. Now, as you can see the Rácz bath is under reconstruction.
Then the area became a poor but romantic and bohemian district. In the beginning of the 19th century here were fires and floods and in 1930 the Tabán was pult down.
If you look to the left, maybe you can see the statue of Sissy, under one wing of the Elisabeth Bridge.
Today it is one of the green areas of the city. Here you can do sports, for example play football or tennis, or you can take a walk. In winter a lot of children come here to sledge or play snowball.
