2005.05.19. 12:48
What to do?
One day:
1: Hősök tere (Heroes’ Square).
- Millenary Monument
- the imposing buildings of Museum of Fine Arts (on the left) and the Art
Gallery (on the right).
Take the underground (known as M1 or yellow line) to Vörösmarty tér (this is the last station).
2: Go to the Danube bank (so called „Dunakorzó”) on the Vigadó utca or on the Deák F. utca.
- enjoy the beautiful view of the Danube with the Chain Bridge, the Buda
Castle and the Gellért hill on the Buda side
3: Take the tram number 2 and go to Kossuth tér (take that tram, which goes toward the Chain Bridge).
- on the Kossuth tér there is the Parliament building
Then take the underground (known as M2 or red line) to Moszkva tér (this is the last station). Here try to find the so called „Várbusz” (the sign of it is a little castle) it’s a little bus, goes from Várfok utca. Go by this bus to the Castle district. I recommend, to get off at Szentháromság tér (4th stop). Here you find:
4: - Matthias church
- Fishermen’s bastion
- enjoy the beautiful little streets with nice buildings
Then go again by the Várbusz or on foot (along on Tárnok utca or Úri utca) to Dísz tér. From here go on foot to Szt. György tér (along on Színház utca or Szt. György utca).
5: - Royal Palace
From Szt. György tér go by the Funicular (so called „Sikló”. Service days: at the operating hours every monday of unpair weeks from the begining of operating hours - 15 h). It takes you to Clark Ádám tér, in front of the Chain Bridge.
6: Go along on the bridge on foot and enjoy the view of the city.
Get on the bus number 4 (red; on Saturdays and on public holidays doesn’t run) to Andrássy út (2nd stop from Clark Ádám tér). Or go on foot to Andrássy út: from Roosevelt tér-József Attila utca).
7: Go a few steps on Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út to the St. Stephen Basilica (Szent István bazilika). Go in, or have a look at it from the outside.
This is the end of the one day tour by me.
